Corona-Scan & Corona-Support - Innovative Apps by Sona College of Technology & Vee Technologies to Tackle COVID-19
Students from the Sona College of Technology, Salem along with the engineers from Vee Technologies, Bangalore, have developed two innovative apps - Corona-Scan & Corona-Support - to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak. Being the brainchild of Chocko Valliappa, CEO, Vee Technologies, the apps were developed by 3rd year engineering students at Sona College of Technology, Naveen Kumar, Bernotsha and Aravind Kumar. The candidates were guided by Prof Akilandeswari J along with the guidance and timely inputs from the Vee Technologies’ IT team.
VeeTrace was successfully launched in Salem Municipal Corporation on 13th April 2020. Later, the awareness vehicles were flagged off to explain the significance of this app.
This app is a revolutionary initiative by the subsidiaries of The Sona Group - Vee Technologies and Sona College of Technology. While Vee technologies is a global technology-enabled professional services company, Sona College of Technology ranks among the top technical institutions in our country.

Corona-Scan helps the public health officials map people close to COVID-19 patients or corona virus infected people. The app tracks the infected individuals when they are within 10 meters, 100 meters & 1 km distance, every 2 minutes and creates live data of those in close proximity to the infected people. This helps health officials to identify and take action by isolating such individuals and testing them. The app also shows the exact number of times when a person was in close proximity of an infected individual over a specific period of time.
Corona-Support involves voluntary public registration and status update to provide accurate information for the experts and health authorities, thereby helping them better track the spread of COVID-19. This app can be downloaded from the Play Store and works on any Smartphone with active mobile data. This simple app only requires the name and contact number of the individuals who download this app.
The success of the apps depends on the number of people using it. Therefore, higher the number of voluntary users the better the scope of preventing community spread.
The apps have entered the COVID-19 innovative app challenge announced by our honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
