In Outlook Magazine, Mr. Chocko Valliappa, CEO of Vee Technologies, writes need for better pay for Indian Teachers.
Mr. Chocko Valliappa, CEO of Vee Technologies, in an article in Outlook Magazine, writes, “Not Just Awards, India's Passionate Teachers Need Better Pay Too!”
In the article, he writes, in a country like India that has a tradition of putting teachers before God and had a practice of offering gurudakshina, students paying the teachers based on their abilities, teachers are paid low today. He was surprised by the salary of a professor at entry-level, who needs at least a Master's degree, is paid just above the unskilled laborers.
The government regulates the fees of most colleges. The kids of the wealthy pay the same fees as the kids of the laborers. And there is a question, how can one expect a good education at low fees? He also suggests, maybe the educational institutions also charge the students a two-month salary after getting hired as the recruitment agencies do.
When India needs to win the global race, we need to pay the passionate Indian teachers well. And awards are not merely enough for them, he writes.
