Migrant Care - an app for the safety of migrant workers in TN developed by the Sona College of Technology students
The students at the Sona College of Technology have developed an app, Migrant Care, to protect the migrants in Tamil Nadu. Marking their status as “Not Sure” or “Safe”, the migrants can communicate their safety level to the police department for prompt action. MD of The Sona Group, Chocko Valliappa, praised the students and emphasized the importance of the tech skills of the students to serve society.
The Migrant Care app is simple and powerful. The migrants can press the “Not Sure” button to send their distress. And if they are safe and don’t require immediate protection, they can mark themselves “Safe.” The simple feature enables them to communicate their status to police officers by tagging their location.
At the request of the Police Commissioner of Salem, Mrs. B. Vijayakumari, IPS, the app was developed by the Sona College of Technology students. Nealy 4k migrants in Salem district installed the app.
